‘CinemAbility’ examines the ever-changing portrayals of disability story lines in film, TV and advertising to see if the media has a hand in transforming the societal inclusion of those with disabilities. Narrated by Jane Seymour and directed by Jenni Gold documentary will premiere on October 1st, 2012.

From the early days of silent films to present day, from Chaplin to X-Men, disability portrayals are ever changing. This dynamic documentary will take a detailed look at the evolution of “disability” in entertainment. Our in-depth investigation will go behind the scenes to interview Filmmakers, Studio Executives, Film Historians, and Celebrities, as well as utilize vivid clips from Hollywood’s most beloved motion pictures, television programs, and commercials to focus attention on the powerful impact that entertainment and the media can have on society. Do disability portrayals in the media impact society or does the media simply reflect our ever-changing attitudes? For now there is no information about CinemAbiliy being shown in Australia or any other country then USA.

CinemAbility will be premiering in the US in 2013, with the hope of playing internationally later the same year. I know the filmmakers interviewed several people who are from/known in Australia including Director Ben Lewin and TV Host Graeme Sinclair, so hopefully it won’t take too long ;)
